I just finished up playing the Joan of Arc campaign in the new Age of Empires II Definitive Edition that was recently released. It reminded me of some truly great gaming moments I experienced growing up with the first version. That got me thinking: how did we get here? No, not us, not humanity. That’s […]
What's Going on in Gaming Today?
Over the last 20 years, the popularity of video games has significantly increased, completely changing the entertainment industry.
With improvements in technology and the growth of Esports, video games have finally taken the center stage. With that growth, the need for smart and creative video game designers, developers, and artists has risen to an all-time high.
Games that used to take 3-10 people to create, now take more than 100 and costs tens of millions of dollars. Even games designed for mobile devices can take years to create. But with so much money on the line (billions), it's more important than ever to produce something special.
With all that's changing it can be a little difficult to figure out where you fit in. For those interested in getting an education, becoming a professional game designer, or making games from home, we've organized our gaming industry archives to help you take the next step.

With Steam sales happening all of the time, great gaming deals, no matter how hard you try to ignore them to save your wallet, are taking place. I had heard great things about From Software’s Sengoku era Japanese-inspired action game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, so I embraced the holiday spirit and bought it. Only one […]
To the outside world, gamers must seem like a uniform bunch: people who play games fit conveniently under one umbrella as gamers. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth! If only it were so easy to categorize gamers, but we are a diverse bunch of individuals. I can prove this, by laying out the […]
I have a stack of old PS2 games under my bed. Like some other people, ‘under the bed’ serves as a convenient place to store all of the stuff you don’t want to see anymore. If you are like me at all, you don’t like to see your stuff accumulate in your room, gathering dust […]

This point in time has never been better for gamers. With amazing technological capabilities, the games we play have never been more beautiful, fun, or addictive. Another great aspect of modern gaming is the accessibility factor for cross-platform games. Cross-platform means that many titles are available for multiple systems at once, and can be played […]
I know what you are going to say. Idle games? Aren’t games meant to be played, not just, well, be idle? Isn’t that just a loading screen? Where’s the gameplay? Slow down, easy. I’ll let you in on an emerging genre of gameplay that you probably never heard about before. Idle games, sometimes known as […]

As the years pass by, video game consoles keep upping the ante on graphics, gameplay, and user-friendly features and some gimmicks. However, what about those consoles in the past generations? The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES, was one of the most iconic gaming consoles ever. It had a wide array of unique titles that […]
Back in the early 2000s, I received a copy of the original Unreal Tournament released in 1999. It was my first exposure to an online FPS, even before my friends and I would spend late hours shooting each other in Counter-Strike. I entered the deathmatch mode, the backbone of any online shooter, and geared up, […]
It was late summer 2008. We had hits like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Battlefield: Bad Company released. However, Xbox Live Arcade released the sequel to the wildly popular game Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Retro Evolved 2 continued the first game’s wild visuals, beautiful colors, and addicting, fast-paced gameplay. After I downloaded it, it wasn’t […]

Mobile games, for many, signal a significant frontier in gaming. We all know neighbors, family members, and friends that are addicted to mobile games like Candy Crush, Disney’s Tsum Tsum, or others. In 2013 when Grand Theft Auto V came out, I was in awe. There were so many features that blew the previous entries out of the water. Not only that, but the gameplay was tight, the graphics insanely detailed, and the animation on point. How was Rockstar able to do all that? It seemed to […]
The 5 Best Augmented Reality Games Way back in the summer of 2016, gamers of all ages were treated to the world-changing event that was the release of Niantic’s Pokémon GO. I spent countless hours, (okay, it was 363 hours), in Skyrim. While the game is great, things like visuals, user interface, and the same old weapons can get dulled over time. While browsing the Steam Workshop for mods, I didn’t even know where to begin. There are hundreds and hundreds for just Skyrim alone. Things […]
Open world games.
