The incredibly popular sandbox game Minecraft, created and designed by Swedish programmer Markus Perrson, also known as “Notch”, features a baisc storyline and simple activities for game players. The infographic below details the timeline of events from the day Notch quit his day job to work on his game full-time, to 2013 after millions of game sales.
For those who aren’t aware, Minecraft is relatively simple. You move textured blocks freely to build and shape an expanding 3D world to your own specs.
Over time, various modes have been implemented, giving the user choice of challenges, obstacles, goals, and limits of resources. The computer version of the game allows for a host of ‘3rd party’ additions and gameplay options.
Game Console Options
Since 2011, Minecraft has been released on all major consoles and platforms. Most recently being released on The Wii.
As of January 2016, Minecraft has sold more than 70 million copies and won a host of awards. Currently, Minecraft is the best-selling computer game of all time while coming in as the 3rd best-selling game of all time in general.
In 2014, Microsoft agreed to acquire ownership of the game (and ownership group Mojang) for a tidy $2.5 Billion.
